FAQs

General

  • At London Filmworks, we make your production process as seamless as possible. Our extensive £1,200 per day camera and lighting package offers an incredible range of industry-leading gear. All equipment is delivered, set up, and fully managed by our dedicated camera assistant. Transport and fuel are included with our custom-racked Kit Van, designed for maximum efficiency and fast setups. Comprehensive kit insurance is also included. London Filmworks is here to take the worry out of your kit rental and all the logistics that come with it, allowing you to focus entirely on your shoot ahead.

  • Our complete kit package consists of: A full two camera and lighting package featuring the Alexa Mini LF, Arri Amira, Sigma Cine Lenses, Ronin 2, Wireless and Client Monitors, Aputure Lighting, Mega Boom, and more. Kit insurance is also included.

For a full breakdown of the kit, see our kit list here.

Kit Van & Camera Assistant: Our dedicated camera assistant drives our custom-racked Kit Van, handles all gear transport, and provides expert assistance on set. The van is optimised for efficiency - every item is easily accessible, and cameras and gimbal can travel fully rigged. From setup to wrap, our assistant ensures everything runs smoothly.

12-Hour Coverage: The £1,200 package includes up to 12 hours of combined travel and shooting time, starting from when we leave our London N7 base until we return. All fuel is included. Overtime is available at £100 per additional hour.

  • If the total time, including both shooting and travel, exceeds 12 hours, we charge an overtime rate of £100 per additional hour. This overtime rate applies equally to extra travel time and extended shooting hours beyond the initial 12 hours. We understand that shoots can unexpectedly run longer than planned, so we're flexible and prepared to support you for as long as you need to ensure your project's success.

    Example for clarity:

    • Total Day Duration: 14 hours (including travel)

    • Overtime: 2 hours x £100 = £200

    Total Cost: £1,200 (base package) + £200 (overtime) = £1,400

  • Travel time is calculated using Google Maps estimates before the shoot, measuring the round trip from our London N7 base to your location. You are billed only for this estimated time, with no charges for delays, traffic, or breaks. Fuel costs are included, and there are no per-mile or daily travel fees - just straightforward, fair pricing.

For example, if you have an 8-hour shoot with 4 hours of travel each way (8 hours total travel), the combined time is 16 hours. The first 12 hours are part of the package. The additional 4 hours are charged as overtime at £100 per hour, adding £400, bringing the total cost to £1,600 (£1,200 base package + £400 overtime). Fuel is included, and hotel costs are covered if needed.

  • If preferred, we can swap the Alexa Mini LF for an Arri Amira at no extra cost. Additionally, we can provide extra Arri Amira kits for £150 per day (including on-board monitor and tripod), subject to availability.

Beyond these options, equipment cannot be swapped or changed, and we do not offer additional gear outside of what’s included in our package. Any extra equipment will need to be sourced by the client.

  • Our buyout package is a flat rate of £1200 per day, whether you need just the Alexa Mini LF or the entire camera and lighting setup. Even if you only needed half of what we provide, it would likely cost more to rent elsewhere. By offering a streamlined package, we ensure consistent, incredible value for our clients.

Plus, having a full kit van on set gives you flexibility, if you change your mind or need extra gear at the last minute, you're fully covered without any extra hassle or added expense!

  • Our equipment is transported in one of the best custom-racked Kit Vans around. Because we work with a set kit list, we’ve been able to design the van exactly for that gear. It features heavy-duty pull-out drawers, in-van battery charging, and every item is accessible without needing to dig through or reorganize the van. This streamlined setup, managed by our trained camera assistant, allows for incredibly fast and efficient setup and de-rig, saving you valuable time on set.

Camera Assistant

  • Our dedicated camera assistant ensures the safe handling, setup, and operation of all equipment throughout your shoot. From driving the Kit Van to managing camera, gimbal and lighting setups, they are there to provide technical support and ensure the shoot runs smoothly.

  • Our camera assistant's priority is the care and management of our kit. While they will assist with setting up the equipment, they won’t be responsible for other production tasks like running errands or non-equipment-related duties. They are there to ensure the gear operates flawlessly throughout the shoot.

  • While the assistant is responsible for the technical setup and safety of the equipment, they are not hired as an operator.

Travel & Logistics

  • Our 12-hour package covers everything from the moment we leave our London N7 base until we return. This includes delivery of the equipment, on-set assistance, packing down and transport back to base. If your shoot involves multiple locations, the travel between them is also covered within the 12 hours.

If the total time - travel and shoot - extends beyond the 12-hour package, we charge an overtime rate of £100 per additional hour. This ensures complete transparency, so you’ll know exactly what to expect with costs.

  • We calculate all travel times using Google Maps before the shoot, based on the most direct route and typical traffic conditions for the time of day. This gives you an accurate estimate of travel time from our London N7 base to your shoot location and back.

You’ll only be billed for the estimated travel time, regardless of any delays, traffic, or personal stops - such as rest or meal breaks.

  • No, we don’t charge for full travel days. Instead, travel time is included as part of your 12-hour package. We calculate travel time using Google Maps to ensure accurate, consistent pricing. If your total time, including both travel and shooting, exceeds the 12-hour package, any additional hours will be billed as overtime at £100 per hour.

Here are a few examples to illustrate:

Example 1: A Shoot near Bristol

    - Call Time: 9am
    - Wrap Time: 7pm

Bristol is approximately a 3-hour drive from our London N7 base. With an early call time, we might travel the night before the shoot and stay in a hotel, or we might choose to stay overnight after the shoot.

Regardless of the plan, the cost to you remains the same. There are no additional charges for accommodation, overnight fees, per diems or fuel. Here's how it breaks down:

    - 3 hours of travel to Bristol
    - 10 hours of shooting
    - 3 hours of travel back to London

    Total time: 16 hours
    Cost: £1,600 (£1,200 base package + £400 for 4 hours of overtime)

Example 2: A shoot near Edinburgh

    Call Time: 10am
    Wrap Time: 5pm

Edinburgh is approximately a 7-hour drive from London N7. We would likely travel the night before and stay in a hotel, and possibly remain overnight after the shoot.

Again, the cost to you remains unchanged. Here's the breakdown:

    - 7 hours of travel to Edinburgh
    - 7 hours of shooting
    - 7 hours of travel back to London

    Total time: 21 hours
    Cost: £2,100 (£1,200 base package + £900 for 9 hours of overtime)

All travel-related expenses, including accommodation and fuel, are covered as part of the package, ensuring a straightforward and transparent cost structure.

  • Yes! All fuel costs are included in the £1200/day buyout package, so you won’t face any additional charges for fuel, no matter the distance.

  • Absolutely. If your shoot requires an overnight stay, we cover the accommodation for our camera assistant at no extra cost to you. Per diems are also included.

Insurance

  • In most cases, no! At London Filmworks, we pride ourselves on offering a hassle-free rental experience, and that includes taking care of the insurance. Since our dedicated camera assistant is always on set managing the equipment, it’s typically fully covered by London Filmworks.

However, there are a few specific situations where we won’t be able to provide coverage. These include, but aren’t limited to:

    - Working on large productions with equipment from other rental houses.
    - Situations where the London Filmworks camera assistant can’t be present.
    - Filming in high-risk environments.
    - Use of equipment on moving platforms (such as vehicles or drones).
    - Rigging the equipment using non-London Filmworks gear.
    - Filming in extreme or adverse weather conditions.

If your production involves any of these scenarios, you will need to arrange insurance for the equipment. Rest assured, we’re here to guide you through the process and ensure everything is clear upfront. For more detailed information, please refer to our Terms and Conditions here.
